Live Premiership Football -chelsea Takes on Manchester United

Posted under champions league results

Chelsea are three points behind the Reds while Manchester United are far back with seven but they have two games at hand. A win by Chelsea inures that the Blues shall increase their lead to seven points over the Red Devils as both teams try to overtake the Reds. The match could very well be the one that shall decide the title race for the three teams.

Chelsea and Man U are out to upstage each other in their hopes of winning the game to erase the memory of forgetful performances during the FA and Carling cup ties respectively.
Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw by Coca-Cola League One team Southend with Salomon Kalou’s first half goal negated by an equalizer from Peter Clarke at the late minutes of the match played at Stamford Bridge. That earned the Shrimpers a third round cup replay, a game which will be played at the Shrimpers’ ground, the Roots Hall. The football match will be the Blues’ next game on the 14th of January. On the other hand, Man U are seeking a better football result than the unexpected 1-0 loss they suffered at the hands of Derby County at Pride Park for a spot to claim the Carling Cup to be played in Wembley Stadium.  Kris Commons produced an impressive first half strike during the semi-final first leg ending United’s unbeaten run to 14 games in all fronts. The streak saw them win eight games and draw the remaining four. Their last loss in all competitions was the 2-1 loss at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal last November 8.

Man U shall play host to the Blues with Chelsea being the first team to be a part of the big four to visit Old Trafford for this year. The last time the two teams met was at Stamford Bridge, in a 1-1 draw. Park Ji-Sung scored with a 17th minute strike while Salomon Kalou answered for the Blues with a second half goal. The game was quite physical with a total of eight yellow cards given by referee Mike Riley. However, United players received most of the cards with seven while Jan Mikel Obi was the only player booked for Chelsea.  Ever since the two teams contested the Premier League and Champions League titles last season with United winning both titles, there seems to be a competitive rivalry brewing between the two.

For the Sunday clash, Man U can expect that Patrice Evra shall return to the side after serving out his four game match ban as a result of the brawl he was involved in with the Chelsea groundskeeper. A concern though for sir Alex Ferguson shall be the fitness of Rio Ferdinand, who continues to suffer from a back injury, Wayne Rooney, who limped out in the dying seconds of the game against Derby and Cristiano Ronaldo, who was in a car accident that wrecked the front of his car but escaped unhurt.

Spanish Football League – Action Still on

Posted under champions league results

 Numancia vs. Getafe

On this past Sunday, January 11th journey, CD Numancia achieved to ascend in the general standings after winning 2-0 before Getafe, that loses for the third consecutive time and descends little by little in the table. On this occasion, the ‘Rojillos’ from Numancia took the lead from the beginning of the match and kept it during most of the first part; besides had the advantage of playing with one more man, due to the early sending-off the field of Roberto Abbondanzieri, which destabilized Getafe’s game strategy. With such situation, Víctor Muñoz, trainer of the ‘Azulones’, tried to make several changes to survive, but the domain by Numancia, in spite that close to the closure if the event lowed the rhythm, was always superior.

Real Betis vs. Málaga

Since the launch of the game, the control was very even between both teams; on their part Real Betis fought with only nine players because 2 of their men were send off, the first was the defender Melli during the first half. This punishment made the ‘Green-Whites’ lose their concentration for a moment, however before the end of the first 45 minutes, Betis managed to tied the scoreboard. From the start of the second half the ‘Béticos’ took charge getting closer and closer to the contrary box; in the middle of the second part came the expulsion of Achille Emaná, aspect that did not affected them, instead it gave them strength to carry on firmly until, starting extra time, Málaga scored their winning goal.

Mallorca vs. Real Madrid

Here, Real Madrid utilized most of their best starting players and arrived powerful to confront a Mallorca unable to stop them. The star of the encounter was doubtless, Madrid’s striker Arjen Robben, author of the first goal, whom with great skills figured out how to surpass the rival’s defense, turning into a big threat for Mallorca. In less than 15 minutes we saw Raúl scored the second, leaving Real with a 2-0 by the time of the break.

During the second period, the locals from Parma de Mallorca tried to modify their strategy but it was worthless in front of the Merengues’ attack, that might not have been an astonishing spectacle, but it allowed them to control the ball. In charge of closing the scoring was Sergio Ramos, who marked the third for the 3-0. The victory pushes the Whites up to the second position of the general standings, giving them the chance to reach Barça and defend their champion’s title, while leaves Mallorca on the red spots.

Atlético Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao

Once again the effects of the football crisis that the Atlético Madrid is going through were clearly seen in the field. On this occasion the ‘Colchoneros’ had a weak performance and played at a low competitive level against Athletic Bilbao, who on the contrary showed off before their misfortune opponent. This is the seventh triumph in a row for Bilbao’s team, which during the whole match were leading. The consistency with which the Lions played, gave them the enough confidence to feel comfortable playing as visitors in the Vicente Calderón. The slow motion of the ‘Red-Whites’ was the decisive factor that took them to lose with the 3-2 and that showed their weakness.

Sporting Gijón vs. Valladolid

This couple has been having similar problems, since Sporting has had the worst results playing at home, while Valladolid hasn’t attain such a good results out of theirs. So for their past Sunday encounter, in which Sporting was the host and Valladolid were guests, both groups arrived searching for a winning to break their respective deceptions chains. In consequence Valladolid started completely concentrated in the battle ahead and remained that way for most of the first 45-minutes-period, although certainly with no real alarming moves. A mistake in the defense of the ‘Pucelas’ gave the ‘Red-Whites’ the opportunity to make their first goal, that few minutes later was followed by the second; the ‘Pucelanos’ made their only score within minutes to the end.

Racing Santander vs. Recreativo Huelva

These two clubs could not exceed the tie (1-1) in a match that had nothing incredible going on, but in which the visitors (Recreativo de Huelva) were obviously playing better than their adversary. The Recre played more lucidly and dominant, however couldn’t make the most of their good control of the ball, losing numerous opportunities to score against a distracted Racing, which made several mistakes and was pretty motionless in their game, opposite to its rival that never stopped looking for the untied

Espanyol vs. Almería

Another pair with draw was this one, which finished 2-2. Almería was the opener of the scoreboard, what made us suspect that their rivals would hit back strongly, but it didn’t happened, instead the ‘Periquitos’ were demotivated and without a clear strategy. It wasn’t until the second half that Espanyol started to press on Almería, who made a second goal. From that moment on both teams fought with all their efforts trying to score another goal; and would be the Espanyol the one to achieve it on the 90 minute.

Osasuna vs. Barcelona

Barcelona, the reigning leader of La Liga, demonstrated all over again their power by defeating 3-2 to Osasuna that could not surpass them. Barça lightened the scoreboard at the 45 minutes thanks to Samuel Eto’o. For second part, the ‘Little Reds’ change their attitude and fighting fearless added 2 goals to the match with a difference of nine minutes between them. But facing the incident Xavi and Lionel Messi took charge of the situation and defending their team with excellent moves, each set on fire the net of their enemy.
